I am a web developer and photographer. This is my hobby site where I put photos and writing. Please check out my work site Caraway Design for web development information.

As a photographer I specialise in natural light photography. I rarely use flash and prefer photography in the field. I currently have images with various picture libraries including Dorling Kindersley , Alamy and Istockphoto below.

I recommend Istockphoto for buyers because amazing high quality images are available for as little as a few dollars with no restrictions. Alamy is a better bet for a photographer if you have a lot of high quality work and wish to maximise returns. But Istockphoto is a great place to put digital files straight from the camera. If you can get past the stringent quality checks that is.

I prefer to photograph people but I do dabble in anything that catches my eye. My images have appeared in Dorling Kindersely books as well as various magazines such as Watercraft, Practical Boat Owner and Amateur Photographer.

For a long time I used Leica M cameras and simple SLR's. I loved these cameras for street photography. I used to develop and print myself but have now moved to digital only.

Going digital has been a liberating experience in one sense and a pain in the neck in another. There are many frustrations but digital has allowed me to experiment more freely, take more risks and take a lot more photos. With digital you can say goodbye to processing errors, damaged negatives, film costs and waiting for results. But you must accept a learning curve, sensor cleaning and hours in the digital darkroom. If you are trying to get your digital images into a photo library you will have to get to grips with new issues such as jpeg artifacting and chromatic aberration.

I am also a keen small boat sailor and own a 1993 Pacific Seacraft Flicka 20 called "Caraway". The sailing pages are mostly about Caraway and her adventures.

About this site

This site is ongoing and is updated whenever I have time. I plan to develop it into what I hope will be a useful source of information and a showcase for my web and photo work.

This site is hosted by Re-invent Technologies under Dotnetnuke 4.8.0. I have tested this site on most common browers. However, I cannot test on every platform and browser. I recommend the latest version of FireFox or Internet Explorer.

If you are interested in a powerful content management system for the web please send me a message.

Thanks for visiting.
